THE HANUKKAH ELF
BY SARAH AND DADDY COMEN
2010
Before the rise of Isis, the loss of innocence, the age international genocide, and a world where humanity turned to the "Dark Side" Sarah and I had a Vision that became our mission.
May the Christmas Joy and the spirit of when we were girls and boys overcome the hateful noise of terrorism.
This is our gift to you this Christmas. We hope this comes to pass.
Amongst the
wonder and Fun
Of the fall
school year run
They began
their school careers
Sarah's Day
Care was done
Harrison's had
just begun
They both met
a new set of peers
On every
Orange Grove wall
Down every
Orange Grove Hall
Pumpkins and
Turkeys danced
From the
beginning of fall
Some fat some
tall
Seemed alive
at very first glance
The school
came alive
with a Holiday
High
In every nook
and cranny
When
Thanksgiving arrived
They would
take the train or fly
To visit every
Granny and Grammy
Then the
December sights
of Christmas
Tree Lights
and the Jolly
round man in red
Of Sugar Plum
Faries
and Mistletoe
Berries
Where in
almost everything they read
Santas and
Reindeers
Pictured far
and near
Danced upon
their brains
Winter
Wonderlands
with Merry
Christmas Bands
Gave joy even
when It rained
When school
began
Afraid of
demands
The sights and
sounds were soothing
Pumpkins and
Leaves
and Sweet
Grass Basket weaves
Replaced most
of their fear of learning
The two young
people knew
That the
Christmas Hullabaloo
Wasn't
Everybody's season
For some
Hanukkah books
and dreddles
they shook
Replaced
Christmas for some reason
The Christmas
Tree
You wouldn't
see
Replaced by
candles and Menorahs
The Jewish
Ways
Were for eight
days
of Gelt,
Latkas, and Horas
Our Hindu
friends
had different
blends
of Holiday
celebrations
Muslim and
Buddhists tend
To have still
different trends
To recognize
their creation
They seemed to
dash
Between the
culture clash
Every day and
every evening
They wondered
aloud
if others
would be proud
To add a bit
of Christmas seasoning
That night
after school
They took
writing tools
And started a
letter to the Clauses
“We were
wondering why
When you take
to the sky
You couldn't
add a number of pauses
During this
season of Miracles
Sung in Jewish
and Christian lyricals
Imagine what
the season could become
Wouldn't it be
hysterical
It could be
almost metaphysical
If you
delivered toys to everyone
Please say Hi
to the Elves
Stocking the
Shelves
But wouldn't
it be very cool
For every
child themselves
If you visited
where they dwell
added to
your nice pool
We both were
wondering
If you were
pondering
Hiring any new
Elves
For if you'd
consider
We two could
deliver
To other kids
ourselves
Wishing you a
Merry
Christmas
from Sari
And from
Harrison all the best
And to the
elves and the fairies
We send kisses
and cherries
And we hope
you all had enough rest
The letter was
sealed
in an envelope
and they peeled
a new 44 cent
postage stamp
They mailed it
for real
Then after the
morning meal
headed to
school through the drizzly damp.
It went to the
North Pole
Through rain,
sleet, and snow
the magically
landed on his desk
Between the
two lists
of Naughty and
Bliss
Sat Sari and
Harrison's request
That
afternoon
They found in
their room
The letter
from Santa's Headquarters
“MERRY
CHRISTMAS TO YOU TWO
YOUR IDEAS ARE
BRAND NEW
PLEASE SPREAD
THIS FAIRY DUST IN ALL CORNERS
WE ALL
AGREE
YOU BOTH
SHOULD BE
INVITED TO
ATTEND
OUR PLANNING
MEETING
AND HELP IN
LEADING
US TO THOSE
WHOSE GIFTS WE SHOULD SEND
WE ALL EAGERLY
AWAIT YOUR ARRIVAL
TO BEST
PREPARE FOR YOUR SURVIVAL
DRESS WARM FOR
IT IS LIABLETO BE A SNOWY COLD REVIVAL
PACK WHAT EVER
FOOD IS DELICIOUS
WITH BEST
WISHES AND CHOCOLATE KISSES
They spread
the fairy dust quickly
It felt a bit
prickly
As it floated
through the air to the ground
And in the
blink of an eye
Two Reindeer
flew by
One Tall and
one very round
The windows in
their room
swung open
with a boom
In an instant
they were astride
A Reindeer
named Zoom
and another
named Floom
“Buckle up,
it's gonna be a bumpy ride
Over
Charleston they flew
Beyond Yonder,
Wild and Blue
Past Boston,
and Salem, and Montreal
They saw
through the Hue
At 90% North
quite a view
A multi
colored shopping mall
They arrived
in Santa Land
Escorted by
the Santa Land Band
They went to
Santa's workshop
Bunkered by
sand
The Reindeer
checked in to the Security Stand
Met by Santa's
Top Cop
With badges
safely pinned
The kids
walked right in
And where
greeted by Faireies and Elves
“Tell us where
you've been”
They said with
wide grins
By now they
numbered twelve
“Santa Loved
your ideas
And we think
in coming years
Christmas
could become Universal
So all Santa's
Dears
With their big
pointy ears
Knew this was
no rehearsal
Just then it
was heard
The hearty
words
HO HO HO from
the front of the table
as the Elder
Elves and the Birds
said “Welcome
to Santa's herd
Santa said
“I'm so glad you received my cable
“People of
Santa Land
My two new
Elves will stand
When we check
our lists once and twice
I hope you all
understand
Our list this
year will expand
So we have
increased time checking naughty and nice
There are
Christians and Jews
and Buddhists,
and Hindus
and Muslims
from all over the world
We have
increased all our crews
Our Elf and
Fairy numbers grew
So Peace on
Earth can be unfurled
Sarah and
Harrison tried their best
and worked
hard with all the rest
Getting names
and lists together
From North,
South, East and West
Running
numerous tests
and keeping an
eye on the weather
As the numbers
increased
The need for
larger seats
in the sleigh
became apparent
For the Pet
shop Wildebeast
and the cuddly
gossamer geese
Wouldn't fit
even under a circus tent
As the start
time loomed closer
On Ipads, on
Roadsters
On Disneyland
Mickey and Shreks
On Harry
Potter boasters
On hand
creams, on coasters
On railroad
trains and baseball card decks
Santa jumped
into his sleigh
Lights
flashing as bells rang away
As four of the
Reindeer arrived
Dancer and
Prancer looked a bit gray
While Donner
and Vixen had to say
That Cupid
will in fact drive
“But wasn't
Rudolph supposed to lead
Tonight there
appears to be a great need
For his Red
Nose as the weather looks frightening
and only a
Reindeer of his special breed
could light up
the night so Santa could read
the towns and
cities that Rudolph would be brightening”
The elves
looked around trying to figure
How the sleigh
could fly as the weight made it weaker
Where were the
other Reindeer right now
The Fairies
were growing increasingly eager
and the Head
Elf stepped up and took over the speaker
“How will the
Sleigh get off the ground?'
Then out of
the mist from behind the hill
A magnificent
vehicle made the heavens still
A streak of
Blue Lightening lit up the sky
A loud
AAAOOOGA came from the grill
It's horn was
quite shrill
But all of the
Elves let out huge sighs
For as it came
closer it became clear
That Comet and
Blitzen were driving it near.
And Dasher was
fastened on the left side
While Mrs St
Nicholas handled reins and gears
As the Elves
and Fairies stroked their beards
For Mrs.
Clause was guiding this ride
“A Sleigh of
Blue alongside the Red”
“A most Jolly
idea” several Elves said.
The Elves
packed both sleights straight to the Heavens.
With gifts for
Miriams, Ayeshas and Freds
and Kahns, and
Shailas, and number of Eds.
As well as
some Sarahs and Devons
Frankie Elf,
the Flight Captain wondered aloud
“We need more
Reindeer to haul to this crowd”
Santa and Mrs.
Claus gave a big laugh
As Mrs. Claus
stood up and whistled very loud
And eight more
Reindeer came down from the Clouds
Doubling the
Reindeer to sixteen from half.
Then Santa
turned to Mrs. Claus as Rudolph joined the crew
Attaching
himself to the sleigh that was glistening Blue
Santa Mrs.
Claus a wink and a nod
and Mrs, Claus
stood up and knew what to do.
Once all
sixteen Reindeer entered her view
She reached
high to the school raising her Christmas Rod
On Comet, on
Dasher, on Blitzen, on Hersh
On Ashoka, on
Visnu, on Arjuna, on Firth
The Reindeer
floated higher on that Christmas Eve
and the blue
sleigh arose with a bump and a lurch
Hovering over
a Mosque and a Church
and something
down after a thump and a weave
Santa arose
and repeated the call
“ On Dancer,
on Prancer, on Blitzen, on Hersh
on Moshe, on
Vixen, on Ali, on Sly,
And in but an
instant the sleighs went from a crawl
and kicked up
magic dust and dashed away all
Until all that
was seen left was a speck in the sky
Off into the
Moonlight the two sleighs flew high
Piercing
Heaven and spilling Joy and Peace
to all corners
of Earth covered by sky
and all anger
and hatred started to cease
