COMEN WAS IN CALIFORNIA ON 9/11/2001  

HIS REFLECTIONS FROM THEN TO NOW 

HE REFLECTS TWENTY YEARS LATER.  ON HIS CROSS-COUNTRY TRAVELS.  THEN OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS,  HE SAW THE COUNTRY UNRAVEL AS THE WORLD GAVELED AN EYE FOR AN EYE MENTALITY                                                                                

9/11 Orange County Register that morning before hate replaced faith in all faith-based places

Later that morning

We took our eyes, off of the prize, Too many times

Democracy, just can’t be what everyone sees

In Vietnam, we ran, and in Afghanistan, they did not stand

There remains a flood where we shed our blood in the rice fields and mud, 

Yet Democratic hopes began against the ropes, but  natives couldn’t cope

Shoveling democracy down throats, just to boast, alienates our hosts

Our grand crusade with superior military aid was sure to fade

If we invade in nighttime raids native anger is made

God turned away, from the USA when born baby kills were ok

When Democrats and Republicans got in each other’s way

God turned away

Faith groups fight, each claiming God’s light,

thinking might overcomes right

I’m mad as hell, I know damn well, we have heard the final bell.

While in L.A, on that treacherous day, my hopes turned gray

At 6 I showered, then saw the planes hit the towers, confused for hours

I abandoned my case, got in touch with my base as the country raced

To figure out our place, what a waste of religious faith.

As the world shuttered and the President muttered,

the ship of state was ruddered in a new course of action.

The first reaction was to identify this faction.

I made my way home. CrossCountry I would roam,

watching futures turn to stone.

I collected papers, of cross country neighbors

while the country sharpened our sabers

Twenty years later, to the Taliban, we cater,

as they gather all our haters

Below is my recollection, through my newspaper collection,

above is my poetic reflection.

 THE TALIBAN RETURNS                            THEY MOCK OUR RESOLV

 BUT NOONE IS CONCERNED?         TO SOLVE WORLD PROBLEMS THAT EVOLVE                          

 

AMERICA TURNS TAIL AS AFGHANIS TRY TO BAIL, BUT FAIL

WILL WE EVER LEARN DEMOCRACY IS EARNED THROUGH LOCAL CONCERN NOT U.S.TERMS?

AS THE PANDEMIC SPREAD LEAVING MILLIONS DEAD              AND NO HOSPITAL BEDS IS THERE A THREAD TO U.S.-LED DREAD? 

WE NEED A MESSIAH NOW IF ONLY WE WOULD ALLOW            ALL FAITHS TOGETHER TO BOW. HOW?
