The Charleston County Tragedy in Education: Vestiges of the Civil War lives on.
Unequal education flourishes in Charleston County. Our school system boasts the number two Magnet High School in the nation ( 96 % white students) while 50% of black students are underperforming by 4rth grade. In a recent meeting with North Charleston Police Chief Reggie Burgess, we learned that a majority of murderers in his jurisdiction have a tenth-grade education or less.
Charleston establishment money recently defeated two black school board members. Dr. Helen Frazier, a long-time CCSD veteran, upset the power play by gaining election to the school board only to find her hands tied by the CCSD administration.
Unequal education leads to jobs going elsewhere and a huge drop in the standard of living for ALL Charleston County residents.
This tragedy requires ACTION. Moses took the initiative to move the Hebrews out of Egypt under God’s direction. He didn't sit back. Jesus didn’t sit back, he took action. His example embraces much of the world today. Dr King didn’t call press conferences. God inspired him to take action. These three and many others took action inspired by God. Christiam Clergy, Jewish Rabbis, Muslim Imams, Hindu Brahmins, and Buddhist Geshes MUST let the school bosrd, state ligislators and other public officials know we are mad as Hell and we will no longer sit back. God will help but it is up to humanity to correct inequality.
This lack of equal education is a national Tragedy.
