OG Robotics Team Heads to Houston

The flames of an Education Revolution are burning throughout the globe. The Friday Night Football game enthusiasm for competition brought into the classroom is not fueled by school boards, teachers, or administrators, but by the students themselves.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math - S.T.E.A.M. My wife’s STEAM classes have a Robotics Team. of 6 boys and 6 girls. Three of her Robotics Team were so excited last year that twice a week they return from their Freshman years in High School to Middle School for the Robotics Team.  After beating a number of High School Robotics Teams a few weeks ago in the South Carolina Eastern Regionals they advanced to the South Carolina State Finals. There they defeated more High Schools to advance to the World Finals in Houston in April where Robotics Teams from around the World will be competing.

What if Reading, Writing, and Math were taught as the Practical Application of a Career - The Science of Agriculture, Music, Law and Politics, Business, Aeronautics, etc?

Students need to compete. They need to learn in an environment where reading, writing, and math is taught along with practical experience in careers. Students need to be interested in the subject matter.  They need to be able to apply these academic areas to real-life situations that interest them.

Imagine if the enthusiasm of a Friday night Football game or a weeknight basketball game could be transported to the classroom.

Each classroom could be divided into Career Pathways such as the Science of Agriculture, Music, Law and Politics, Business, Sales, or Manufacturing, they could compete in Jeopardy-type games and intramural sports on Fridays for points toward a semester Championship.

My wife Michelle and I began our efforts to change education toward this practical application of Reading, Writing, and Math many years ago after a Middle School Student killed another student.
