9/11- The Lessons Learned But Forgotten

BY HOWARD GERALD COMEN -

NAMED AFTER AN UNCLE AND COUSIN KILLED IN WW2

On 9 11  2,977 in Twin Towers  die

343 Firefighters in graves lie

a Chaplain and paramedics families cry

37 from  Ports Authority and Jersey to heaven fly

Families of 23 NYPD said goodbye

8 EMT’s  families and one from  NYFP sigh

Our answer? An Eye for an Eye?

So from 2001 to now more died

“Enduring Freedom” was a lie

Democracy doesn’t always fly

When countries prefer to let sleeping dogs lie

Revolution only ends within their countryside

In Vietnam 58,000 US dead or missing

between 1955 and 75 they were listing

alongside 365,000 Vietnamese no longer kissing

loved ones who continue grieving

abandoned as our  troops were leaving

No one ever seems to be listening

Rules of Engagement Never make a dent

Against an enemy with no rules, or regrets

When suicide bombers are the way

Those enemies utilize them every day

Their own lives have no meaning they say

An enemy like this can’t be kept at bay

241 000 people were killed

In Afghanistan/Pakistan graves are filled

71,000 civilians  lie in the hills

Yet the Taliban controls the region still

While you and I shoulder the bill

You can’t defeat a nation's, Free Will

In the U.S. prevention is the only stance

Cops know the proactive over the reactive dance

Secure your borders, your buildings, and your ranch

secure each state, local, and federal branch

Use intelligence to replace your gun and your lance

Funds will not overtake hate to give freedom a chance

Don't let disease,  both of health and wealth

Dictate your feelings of freedom in yourself

Don’t be confused when others yell for help

Unless they are ready to always help self

American lives filed in some Afghanistan memory shelf

Filed next to Vietnam lives lost defending someone else

Ideals defeated as hopes and dreams receded

Democratic ways failed to sway

The hearts and minds of those lands far away

We failed to hear what these countries say

They never fully joined into the fray

They accepted their plight as the skies turned gray

When the U.S. is attacked

Focus on enemies but never overreact

To interfere with Countries who others back

Is ludicrous, counterproductive, and shows no tact

Foreign Governments continue to hack

American business and hospitals they continue to sack

A message to Congress and future Presidents

Unless within a countries fence

When Citizens lead a revolution hence

We could send supplies and intelligence

But American lives should never be spent

Liberty stands between the Twin Towers
