TAKE BACK OUR CHILDREN (T-BOC)
Marvin Gaye, himself a victim of gun violence, asked the question "Who really Cares?" His Protege, Dr. Secil Jenkins along with a host of national celebrities will answer that question in a series of national concert tours beginning in Norfolk Virginia, the scene of a relative of Dr. Jenkins lost her life to gun violence.
T-BOC Board Member Howie Comen has written a blog with Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" video and additional information.

BENEFIT CONCERT TOUR 2024 BUSINESS PLAN
Executive Summary: The Take Back Our Children (T-BOC) Benefit Concert Tour 2024 is a national community movement aimed at providing youth plagued by violence with viable options for a hopeful future. Our benefit concert tours will serve as a resource to empower youth and offer alternatives to disenfranchisement and street violence. With the support of community leaders, endorsements from prominent influencers, and partnerships from law enforcement agencies, local community schools, and grassroots organizations, T-BOC aims to combat gun violence and create safer communities. Our goal is to bring awareness and resources to at-risk youth in cities nationwide. Through a coalition of mayors, we aim to provide support and opportunities, while fostering productive behavior and facilitating integration of the youth into society. Each tour will provide opportunities for personal growth, education, and informed engagement. Take Back Our Children (T-BOC) Benefit Concert Tour 2024 encourages community members to join this movement that offers a ray of hope for youth facing violence.
PROJECT SYNOPSIS
Vision: Our vision is to serve as a catalyst for change by empowering youth facing detrimental circumstances and limited options by guiding them towards a brighter future through our Benefit Concert Tours and residual local community combatting gun violence influencers.
Mission: We are dedicated to assisting in the eradication of gun violence in cities across America by providing resources, mentorship, and empowerment while fostering hope and optimism throughout at-risk communities.
Who We Are We are a team of community leaders united against the gang and gun violence that plagues our youth. Together, we join forces and resources to combat these pervasive issues that afflict neighborhoods across America.
The Inaugural Concert Our Inaugural concert is scheduled for June 2024 at Town Point Park in Norfolk, VA. It marks the beginning of our transformative journey to engage communities and to address the issue of gun violence.
Organizational Structure T-BOC operates under the guidance of a dedicated Board of Directors led by Dr. Cecil T. Jenkins, Jr., an esteemed community leader in Hampton Roads, “the seventh largest metropolitan area in Southwestern Virginia.” Our Project Manager, Tyron Senior, oversees the planning and execution of the Benefit Concert Tours while ensuring the success of the collective T-BOC initiative.
Company Description T-BOC Benefit Concert Tour 2024 is a collaborative effort led by a team of like-minded community leaders who have been inspired by the late Marvin Gaye’s directive to Dr. Cecil T. Jenkins. Jr., to “Save the Children. Save the Babies.” Together, we are committed to leveraging our resources, partnerships, and expertise to combat gun violence and create a brighter future for our children.
Product or Service Description T-BOC organizes benefit concert tours that serve as a platform to engage communities, draw attention to the issue of gun violence, and provide direct resources for at-risk youth. These concerts serve as catalysts for change through which informative breakout sessions covering various topics such as mental health awareness, healthy lifestyles, skill-building activities, and job fairs are provided. T-BOC leaves residual value on the ground by partnering with the local anti-violence Task Force. The goal is to invest 20% of the proceeds from the benefit concert to seed the success of the coalition. Community violence intervention (CVI) taskforces are the keys to the T-BOC success in Hampton Road. T-BOC supports community breakout sessions during each concern to enforce community knowledge and awareness as well as partner with local violence interrupters and Chiefs of Police as an approach that uses evidence-informed strategies to reduce violence through tailored community-centered initiatives. These multidisciplinary strategies engage individuals and groups to prevent and disrupt cycles of violence and retaliation and establish relationships between individuals and the community. T-BOC leaves in place assets to deliver services that save lives, address trauma from being a victim personally or from post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD); provide opportunity, and improve the physical, social, and economic conditions that drive violence. T-BOC is more than a one-time show, T-BOC will provide artistry training and annual scholarships to attend the newly foundational Chicago Illinois-based performing arts school - Onnie Music Arts and Technology Center.
Statistics According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, November 28, 2020, “Firearms are the leading cause of death in children and youth 0 to 24 years of age in the United States.” The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2020) reported that more Americans died of gun-related injuries than in any other prior year. The statistics reveal a record number of gun-related murders, as well as near-record numbers of firearm suicides. It is disheartening to witness that local and national news reports are weighed down with daily accounts of gun violence activities throughout the United States of America. These statistics highlight the urgent need for action to address the pervasive issue of gun violence and its devastating impact on our community. T-BOC takes on the mission of combatting violence through the uniting compassion of song. Cities across the country are experiencing a historic spike in homicides, violence that is greatest in racially segregated, high-poverty neighborhoods. Black men make up 6% of the population but over 50% of gun homicide victims. Black women, Latinos, and Native Americans are also disproportionately impacted. The loss of life has devasting consequences for family members and cascading harm for communities. As just one example, research shows that exposure to firearm violence - including as a victim or witness - makes it twice as likely an adolescent will commit a violent act within two years.
Market Analysis Gun violence is a pressing issue in America. It affects countless neighborhoods. Our T-BOC team is driven by staggering statistics regarding gun violence, the urgent need for change, and the sustenance of the change. Police department budgets remain at an all-time high. It’s time cities invest instead in community-based solutions to crime - like the T-BOC CVI program - that will prove to work with the uniting spirit of soulful music of various genres.
Marketing and Sales Strategy T-BOC will leverage strategic partnerships with local communities, schools, law enforcement agencies, and media outlets to raise awareness about our benefit concert tours. Through targeted marketing campaigns, social media engagement, and grassroots efforts, we aim to reach a broad audience, engage sponsors, and secure donations to support our cause. President Biden’s American Rescue Plan (ARP) includes funding that can be used to invest in these programs. And cities including New York, St. Louis, and Washington, DC, have already committed to expanding existing CVI programs and creating new ones. CVI programs recognize that gun violence is a public health issue. They offer interventions that can mitigate the spread of gun violence and address the needs of communities where trauma, systemic disinvestment, and interpersonal and financial stressors are driving increased shootings. T-BOC seeks to join forces with local anti-violence interrupters to reclaim the innocence of youth. T-BOC will convene meetings with officials from Hampton Roads communities, facilitate peer-to-peer learning, and provide technical assistance.
Financial Projections Detailed financial projections and budgets will be provided in the full business plan. These projections will outline anticipated revenue streams, including ticket sales, sponsorships, and donations, as well as associated expenses for organizing and executing the benefit concert tours.
Further, it is the intention of the T-BOC Benefit Concert Tour 2024 President/Founder to work collaboratively with the mayors-their suggested activists and the task forces of each participating city to leave a monetary donation with each respective city. To do so is to encourage future support for T-BOC from the participating cities.
Plan & Directive We will organize benefit concert tours, leveraging their mass appeal to draw attention and unite people against gun violence. Alongside the concerts, structured breakout sessions will offer mental health awareness, skill-building activities, job fairs, and other resources. Our multifaceted approach will empower and contribute to safer communities: with emphasis on wraparound services for youth most likely to engage in or be victimized by gun violence. Programs like these have reduced homicides by as much as 60% in areas where they are implemented.
